The popular Farm Flavours Picnic is as sought after as it is simple – enjoy a hamper for two in the shade of a macadamia tree.
Sunshine and the sounds of a jazz band add to the atmosphere that encourages picnickers to kick back, relax and relish diverse and delicious localproduce.
Hosted by Macadamias Australia on its expansive orchard, for a few hours it’s easy to feel as though you’ve left the rest of the world behind.
Lounging on picnic blankets, dotted with the occasional hay bale and table and chairs, all there is to do is enjoy a delicious meal, catered by Water St Kitchen, and sip on local beverages.
Macadamias Australia has sponsored and hosted the picnic event, which doubles as a fundraiser, since its inception in 2014.
Director Corporate Services Janelle Gerry said the Farm Flavours Picnic was a chance for the family to open their farm to the community and bring friends and family together to support local charities.
“Bundaberg grows 25 per cent of Australia’s fresh produce so it is very special to celebrate the region’s offering in a delicious picnic hamper,” Janelle said.
“This event provides an opportunity for visitors to sit amongst the trees in the orchard, enjoying the beauty of nature surrounding them.
“It also gives children an opportunity to collect nuts from under the trees, an experience many enjoy.
“Nothing beats a great tasting picnic with a beverage listening to jazz music on a Sunday afternoon in a relaxing and natural setting,” she added.
Over the picnic’s seven years the event has raised $12,764 for local charities. With the help of Sunrise Rotary these funds have been distributed amongst a variety of local organisations including Marcus Mission and the AEIOU Foundation.
