When it comes to flying the ‘Brand Bundaberg’ flag, you won’t find a pair more dedicated to the ‘love local, shop local’ movement than Melinda and Darren Scheuer.

The couple own two independent local businesses – Bundaberg Furniture Court and Beds R Us – and know how much value a local dollar holds.

“We are very proud to both be born and bred in Bundaberg. Shop local is not just something we say; you’ve got to practice what you preach. We buy our cars locally, we visit the local restaurants, and we like to encourage people to do the same,” Melinda said.

The couple and their young daughter, Matilda, are so dedicated to the Region that when they were in the market for a holiday home, they purchased a unit at Bargara.

“When we looked at buying a holiday home, we had thought about the Sunshine Coast or even Hervey Bay. But we were sitting at Kacy’s (Restaurant) one day, and realised we are looking elsewhere when we’ve got it all here. We’ve got the best eateries, we’ve got cafes, we’ve got the cleanest, safest beaches with lifeguards. We’ve got it all right here on our doorstep, and if we get called into work we are just 20 minutes away,” she said.

While they put a lot of time into their business, making sure people across the Region are comfortable in their homes, when they step away it is all about family time.

“When we don’t come down here to the beach, I love cooking. Darren loves camping and fishing and Matilda has her sports. When we’re at home, it’ll be watching a family movie – we’ll pull out the sofa bed, get the popcorn out and curl up,” Melinda said.

After more than 33 years in the furniture industry and 14 years as business owners, there is one thing that keeps customers returning – Melinda and Darren’s ability to match people to furniture that suits their needs and provides ultimate comfort.

“What we really want is for people to feel at home, be comfortable and happy with what they buy,” Melinda said.
